A. Michael Noll – Mondrian Simulator

After I had decided to try and write a computer program to simulate Mondrian’s Composition with Lines 1917 http://ccad-research.org/DominicFee/?p=197 , I wanted to see if anybody else had tried anything similar. I found that American engineer and pioneer of computer graphics, A. Michael Noll, had done exactly this in 1964, a mere 49 years before me. He also conducted a survey at the time, and discovered that out of those surveyed, the majority preferred his computer-generated version to the original painting.

This link is to a paper describing how he did it. http://noll.uscannenberg.org/Art%20Papers/Mondrian.pdf
